Courtney Brennan — Challenge of Leadership
Enrolling in LMA’s Challenge of Leadership course provided an excellent opportunity to challenge myself by engaging in new learning around developing confidence and capability as a new leader.
To this end, I structured developmental goals around improving my communication skills and stakeholder management, as well as enhancing my personal leadership and emotional intelligence skills. These goals being key tools that will empower me to handle challenges more effectively and lead with greater impact.
I also structured a personal goal around improving and maintaining good physical and mental health.
Throughout the program, I looked forward to attending the fortnightly workshops which were highly interactive, engaging and fun. Discussing each module with a group of peers allowed me to refine my thinking around best ideas and how I can practically apply them back into my role to achieve predetermined outcomes. Two elements that stood out for me were the concept of above-the-line thinking and implementing high-performance strategies (HPAs). Additionally, understanding different personalities and adapting my communication style to create stronger connections and buy-in with others was another valuable aspect of the program.
During my graduation, I was able to reflect on the outcomes I had achieved throughout my development journey which included improved time management, a structured and consistent exercise routine, the ability to set boundaries, increased self-discipline, and greater confidence in leading others. I am also less self-critical and have an increased focus on HPA productivity.
As a National Training Manager, I have seen many different approaches to learning and development. LMA sets itself apart given the heavy focus on creating lasting attitudinal change, measurable results, and an identifiable return on investment. I would recommend this program to any organisation looking to develop their people both personally and professionally.
