Client Case Study
Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust
"I cannot believe how this program has transformed our people in such profound ways"
Established as a Class A Cemetery Trust in 2010, Greater Melbourne Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) is the trusted partner for all Victorians, supporting families through their experiences of life, death and grief. GMCT provides tailored burial, cremation and memorialisation services to meet specific needs of families and loved ones.
For nearly a decade, GMCT has been working with LMA to develop its leaders of the future. LMA’s Success Strategies for Team Leaders and Supervisors (SSTLS) course has become pivotal – almost a “rite of passage” for emerging leaders across the organisation. So much so, that the program is now highly sought after for those wishing to develop and progress into higher roles and greater responsibilities with GMCT. Fortunately, GMCT is committed to investing in the development of its people.
Sharon Dore, Manager – Workforce Development, had seen firsthand, the impact of investing in people development through LMA programs at a previous organisation. LMA presented a very different approach to the learning and development experience for participants – well beyond the “quick fix” or a “one- or two-day wonder” that Sharon knew did not work.

“Our first group of 19 Participants undertook the program over 9-10 months and graduated in 2014. I can still remember the looks of surprise and delight on the faces of our Executive Team, and the CEO in particular, as each Participant recounted their take on the course and how it had changed their lives – personally and professionally – at the special Graduation Ceremony.”

“One key feature of the course is the chance for participants to TRY things… to have a go and risk that it might not work. LMA gives participants permission to experiment, to risk in order to grow and develop.”
—Sharon Dore, Manager
Subsequent course groups in 2016, 2019 and 2022/23 have continued to amaze the executive, managers, mentors and supporters alike with their takeaways, applications and results – both quantitative and qualitative.
Looking to the future, Sharon sees working collaboratively with the LMA team as “business as usual”, which in her world means ongoing investment in GMCT’s people at all levels but particularly at this all-important emerging leader level.
“The days of simply promoting the best operator or most proficient worker to lead the team they’ve been part of without supporting them, investing in their development and providing the scaffolding and resources to deliver success are over.
You MUST set them up for success in every way possible if you’re wanting them to stay and grow rather than leave.”
LMA will be working to ensure we help GMCT do so for years to come.
