When it became clear that I was on track to step into a Junior Leader position within our Engineering Department, I realised that while I understood the expectations of leadership, I lacked formal development. The Challenge of Leadership (Cert IV Leadership & Management) program with Leadership Management Australia (LMA) seemed like the perfect opportunity to bridge that gap and ensure I could approach my new responsibilities with structure and confidence.

My primary goal in joining the program was to develop the confidence and composure needed to lead others, relying on proven methods rather than just my technical expertise. In today’s fast-paced, global environment, I knew that technical skills alone weren’t enough. Effective leadership requires the ability to inspire, guide, and unite diverse teams.

One of the most valuable takeaways from the program was learning about Effective Delegation. Implementing these tools immediately transformed the way I managed my team. I also came to appreciate the power of creating a clear team vision and fostering genuine engagement, which has allowed everyone on my team to contribute, grow, and take ownership of our collective success.

As a result of the program, I have crafted and implemented new processes that are now fully understood and embraced by my team. Together, we’ve established a culture centred on Honesty, Performance, and Innovation. I now feel confident in my team’s ability to adapt, delegate, and tackle unexpected challenges as they arise.

The most enjoyable part of the experience was the combination of LMAʼs expert facilitators, my organisation’s involvement, and the diverse perspectives of fellow participants. The courses steady, practical pace meant that I could apply new lessons immediately and discuss the results in the next session, making the learning process both relevant and rewarding.

I would highly recommend the Challenge of Leadership program to anyone seeking clear, actionable leadership tools. The program delivers practical methods that can be used right away, and any organisation would benefit from having leaders who are focused, efficient, and equipped to drive both organisational and human success.
