Jelka Hrkac – Challenge of Leadership

Regarding the learning process with LMA, I really enjoyed both the goal setting component and the plan of action/assignment activities.

Enrolling into LMA’s Challenge of Leadership program was an opportunity for me to develop, grow and take the next step in my Leadership journey at Oscar Living. It offered a pathway to improve my leadership style, create awareness around other areas of improvement and responsibilities for me as a leader, and an individual. I needed this program as I was beginning to feel stuck in stale mate and not moving forward.

Primary development areas for me throughout the program included understanding different techniques for handling difficult situations, creating a better team environment and allow my directors to feel confident that changes with myself is beneficial for the business and for me personally.

The content within the program was great but the ability to workshop it with a group of leaders from different industries and then practically apply it back into our businesses made all the difference. For me, the standouts included Leading Innovation and Change – which allowed me to empower Team Leaders to identify key areas for improvement and implement, creating real bottom line improvement. Exercising Authority with Emotional Intelligence has allowed me to understand my people on a deeper level, flex my communication, build a more cohesive work environment whilst empowering those around me to take on additional responsibility through effective delegation. We are all now focused on ‘Big Rock’ activities and cognizant of not doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Overall, I have learnt that some people make changes quicker than others, and some will need more coaching, support, encouragement and development to adopt a mindset of continuous improvement which is my responsibility as their leader.
